What happens when we focus on our strengths rather than our weaknesses?
Our Strengthfinder card deck is a dialogue-based tool that can help you become more aware of your inner resources and positive traits. In the development of these cards, it has been important for us to create descriptions that make them accessible to more people, including children and young people with a multicultural background.
Each card has a front with a strength and a back with a brief description of the strength. On the back side, there is also an English and Arabic translation of the strength. The strengthfinder cards consist of 24 unique strengths divided into six different virtues: Wisdom, Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperance, and Transcendence.
These have been obtained and translated with approval from the VIA Institute and in accordance with Peterson and Seligmans 2 research on character strengths.
In addition, we have included three cards that belong to a seventh category: Multicultural capital. This category highlights some of the unique skills and knowledge that people with multicultural backgrounds possess. The category is developed In collaboration with young people who have previously participated in Catalyst’s mentoring program and who, through focus groups and workshops, shared their reflections on how a multicultural background can be a strength.
Here you can have a look at the different virtues to see which strengths they are associated with.
“Background and culture has an influence on your future. When you have grown up with a given background and
culture and meet a new culture, you must bring the positive from the culture. It will affect your future”
